Seosamreung(Royal Tombs)

At this mausoleum site, visitors can find the Heereung, Hyoreung, and Yereung tombs: Heereung is the royal tomb of the Queen Janggyeong, the second wife of the 11th King of the Joseon Dynasty, Joongjong. Hyoreung is the royal tomb of King Injong, the 12th King of the Joseon Dynasty and his wife Queen Inseong. Yereung is the royal tomb of King Chuljong, the 25th King of the Josen Dynasty and his wife Queen Cheolin. Originally chosen as the site for Heereung, the area spanned around 4.3 ㎢ or 1.3 million pyeong only to be reduced to 0.23 ㎢ or 70,000 pyeong as of now, half of which is closed to the public. Also included at this site are Taeshil or placenta stone chambers of royal babies, royal tombs of princesses and kings’ daughters by concubine, Sokyeungwon or the royal tomb of the crown prince Sohyun, the first son of the 16th King of the Joseon Dynasty, and Hyochangwon, the royal tomb of the crown prince of Moonhyo, the first sond of the 22nd King of the Joseon Dynasty.
